East Lothian Tenant Development Support Project

The TIS Development Support Service assisted ELTRP to be an effective partner on the rent consultation working group with East Lothian Council to improve the rent consultation process. TIS worked with ELTRP to influence the ELC rent consultation process in a number of ways:

  • ELTRP representatives agreed the ELC approach to the consultation through the working group;
  • Agreed the format and questions which formed a questionnaire which was sent  to all tenants in East Lothian.
This method resulted in over 800 returns from tenants; one of the largest returns from a consultation process in East Lothian Council. Recently, TIS staff supported local groups to develop, plan, implement and review eight community surveys across East Lothian. There were approximately 200 responses to local group surveys and this is a great outcome as it gives people the opportunity to get involved in a way that suits their circumstances. TIS staff assisted each local group to analyse the results and produce a survey report with main recommendations. The work carried out by local groups to gather information and views is excellent tenant participation practice and is to be commended. TIS recognises that a range of options for getting people involved is important, and local surveys are just one way that this can be achieved.
